He followed me home! Can I keep him?

While taking the puppy out for a potty break last night my teens found this little guy next to our front door step.  Welcome Fred the Tiger Salamander to our home! A new terrestrial tank will be set up for him this week, for now he is in a temporary home while we get organized.  I have some peices of drift wood in there for him to hide under and crawl on but removed them for the pictures.

  1. You are way cooler than me! I'd have screamed, run in circles, and called someone to take it away. LOL!

    1. Haha That is what both teens did. I picked him up and brought him in. Now had he been a spider and not a salamander I would have been a lot more vocal in the screaming department.

  2. Hey that's great! My little guy is looking at your blog with me and I told him that the little animal was a salamander. Then he asked me: "What does a salamander do?" Hmm, good question. Think your lovely children could answer this question for him? Kari7997 swap bot.

    1. Well before we put together the new home for him he had an adventure in my house. He climbed out of the tupperware I had him in, out of my bedroom, through my office, out to the kitchen all the way through the kitchen, and I found him at 7am walking through the livingroom. Thanks goodness the cat and dog did not notice.

Now that he is in his new home, during the day he pretty much just hangs out. Salamanders are nocturnal so at night he crawls around his home, swims in the water dish and digs in the substrate. We feed him worms currently. The kids dig one out of the garden each day for him and he slurps it down like spaghetti. Once winter hits we will be feeding him crickets.

He is a pretty cool pet to have actually.

  3. Wow the little guy or girl looks cool but I would have a hard time adopting a reptile though my husband loves them. (Follow me #5)
